Most Popular Leased SUVs on the Road
Everyone’s requirements when leasing a vehicle are not the same. Some people would never lease a SUV, being concerned about fuel economy, and yet for other people a SUV is the perfect choice. Leasing in today’s market is extremely confusing. Just like buying, leasing offers the potential to make a great deal and the pitfall of ending up unhappy with your choice.
Leasing does offer the advantage of being able to be written off as a business expense if you are self-employed. Another advantage of leasing, is the opportunity to get into ‘more’ of a vehicle than you could afford to buy. Many people are getting into luxury vehicles via leasing so they don’t have to put up the heavy down payment up front. In recent years, 21 percent of auto consumers chose to lease their vehicles. It’s a trade off from letting go of the idea of ownership for the short-term benefits of leasing.
This list represents consumer choice of the top leased SUVs for the first six months of 2008.

This year, the auto industry has seen major changes in car leasing. The automakers have gone through massive shifts as they try to adjust to widely changing consumer tastes and requirements. SUVs have been left in rather a bad spot. It’s interesting therefore, that these types of vehicles are still high up on those vehicles currently being leased. No, they are not at the top ten of all vehicles but they do start just below that.
As we look at the lease requests in the first six months of the year, it’s easy to see that fuel prices have had an impact. Consumers are preferring more fuel-efficient cars, and asking for more hybrid vehicles. They are choosing to take second hand hybrids in some cases, when new models have too long a wait list. A definite shift in consumer tastes. The way in which the auto industry handles leasing is changing and we should show interesting data when we look back on consumer leasing choices in the next six months.

The Honda CR-V has the distinction of being the most popular SUV to lease – in a world where SUVs have sunk in popularity over the last six months.
This 4-door, 5 passenger compact crossover vehicle is available in four trims, the LX, EX, EX-L and EX-L w/Navigation. All four trims are available as two-wheel drive or the popular four wheel drive. Standard with all these trims are the 2.4L inline i-VTEC four cylinder engine with 166 horsepower. Paired with this engine is a 5 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. This vehicle gets great mileage, which has contributed to it being at the top of the leased SUV list. The Honda CR-V gets 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
When leasing, it’s important to know that the vehicle you will be driving has solid safety features behind it and that it has received a solid safety rating. The good news for the CR-V is that it has achieved 5 stars in both the driver and passenger frontal crash tests, 5 starts in front and rear seat side impact tests and a 4 star rating in rollover tests on both the four wheel and two wheel drive models.
