The Mitsubishi Company
Mitsubishi is a traditional Japanese zaibatsu. The core of Mitsubishi consists of 30 different companies, each with its own focus. Mitsubishi manufactures, markets, sells or offers a vast array of products including glass, banking, insurance, metals, chemicals, energy, warehousing, trucks, construction, commercial vehicles and passenger cars. In addition to the core companies are roughly two-dozen additional affiliated or related organizations.
Mitsubishi's Partnerships
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is the Mitsubishi company that manufactures passenger cars. The company is the sixth largest automaker in Japan. Mitsubishi Motors has engineered its success through alliances and joint-manufacturing deals with a number of non-Japanese automakers. Throughout the years, Mitsubishi has partnered with Chrysler, Hyundai and Volvo. Mitsubishi's partnership with Chrysler is probably the most familiar with North American car buyers. The two companies have shared technology, engines and platforms for over three decades (see also Diamond-Star Motors). Chrysler's Dodge Caliber, Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass are all products of its partnership with Mitsubishi.
