Autotropolis 2010 Car & Truck of the Year

2010 Car of the Year
Buick LaCrosse

Following up the popular Buick Enclave crossover, Buick has given itself the best chance ever to really compete against luxury import brands with the 2010 Buick LaCrosse (also known as the Buick Allure). Standing out as the top new sedan in its segment, our editorial staff has named the Buick LaCrosse the 2010 Autotropolis Car of the Year.

2010 Truck of the Year
Ford Transit Connect

Yes, we realize the Ford Transit Connect isn’t really a truck since it rides on a platform shared with the compact Ford Focus, but its interior size and intended purpose essentially makes it a crossover work vehicle. Standing out as the top vehicle among pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles and crossovers, the Ford Transit Connect is our 2010 Autotropolis Truck of the Year.

Featured New Car Review: 2009 Toyota Corolla

Starting MSRP: $15,350
Visit the Research Center

With an MSRP $15,350, the 2009 Toyota Corolla gives buyers lots of bang for their buck as this fuel efficient (35 mpg highway!) small sedan is full of luxury amenities, along with Toyota’s legendary performance, reliability and safety. (Since 1966, more than 30 million Corollas have been sold worldwide.)

One of the main buying points is the 2009 Toyota Corolla’s long list of standard safety features, including active front head restraints, full-length side curtain airbags, driver and passenger airbags and anti-lock brakes.

Although available this 2009 model year with a 2.4-liter engine and built-in navigation, I test drove the basic 2009 Toyota Corolla and its 1.8 liter, four-cylinder engine. After a few days of driving, I realized why Toyota’s Corolla is so popular with millions of America’s drivers. The 2009 Toyota Corolla is just fun to drive with its rather racy acceleration, excellent handling, responsive braking, tight suspension and naturally good feel between the telescoping steering wheel and wide cozy seats. There’s just something thrilling and, at the same time, trusty about the Corolla’s zippy drive.
