2009 Toyota Camry Overview

The Toyota Camry is a 4-door midsize sedan manufactured by Toyota. The 2009 Toyota Camry retains much of the styling and performance features that debuted in the 2007 model year, when the current 7th generation of the Camry was introduced. The Toyota Camry has historically been one of the best-selling vehicle models in the United States and solid sales figures of the 2009 model indicate that this trend will continue. Top vehicles competing with the 2009 Toyota Camry include the 2009 Honda Accord and the 2009 Hyundai Elantra.

2009 Toyota Camry Trim Levels

The 2009 Toyota Camry is available in four trim levels - CE, LE, SE and XLE. A 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid is also available. The base CE model comes standard with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, air conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 60/40 rear seats, 16-inch wheels and a 6-speaker stereo system with CD/auxiliary input capabilities. The 2009 Toyota Camry LE (Luxury Edition) adds a few minor upgrades, including an 8-way power driver's seat, keyless entry and the option for more power in the form of a 3.5-liter V6 engine.

The two upper-tier Camry models also offer the V6 engine upgrade. The 2009 Toyota Camry SE (Sports Edition) includes several performance and sport enhancements, including a sport-tuned suspension, unique styling details and 17-inch alloy wheels. The XLE (Xtra Luxury Edition) focuses more on comfort and builds on the LE package by incorporating automatic dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, reclining rear seats, wood-tone details, moon roof and JBL sound system with CD changer and satellite radio. Leather seating also comes standard on the V6 edition of the Camry XLE.

2009 Toyota Camry Performance

The 2009 Toyota Camry is one of the most powerful midsize sedans on the market today. All trim levels of the vehicle come standard with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. This capable engine certifies the Camry as an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle and delivers 158 horsepower and 161 lb-ft. of torque. Test runs of the engine delivered a 0-to-60 mph time of approximately 8.9 seconds. Toyota has also slightly modified the engine of 2009 Toyota Camry vehicles sold in California to meet Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standards. The reduced emissions gained by this modification drops the performance of the I4-engine Camry to 155 horsepower and 158 lb-ft. of torque.

An upgrade to the 3.5-liter V6 engine increases power substantially with a total of 268 horsepower and 248 lb-ft. of torque. This more powerful engine is also matched by a more capable 6-speed automatic transmission (as opposed to the I4 Camry's 5-speed automatic or manual transmission). The boost in power results in a speedy acceleration of 0-to-60 mph in approximately 6.5 seconds - an admirable time given the size of the vehicle.

2009 Toyota Camry Fuel Efficiency

Toyota is known for manufacturing efficient vehicles with solid gas mileage. The 2009 Toyota Camry continues this tradition by offering 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway when outfitted with the less powerful 4-cylinder engine. The 3.5-liter V6 compromises a bit of fuel economy for speed with a respectable 19 mpg in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.

2009 Toyota Camry Safety

The 2009 Toyota Camry received high safety marks by both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA). The IIHS awarded the Camry top honors with a rating of "Good" in both the frontal offset and side impact crash tests. The NHTSA reported similar results with a remarkable 5-star rating in all front and side impact categories.

The superior crash test ratings of the 2009 Camry can largely be attributed to the variety of standard airbags available in the vehicle. Front seat side airbags, a driver knee airbag and full-length side curtain airbags are all strategically placed. Antilock brakes with brake assist also come standard on all Camry models.
