Honda Civic Sedan

By:Todd Jensen, Autotropolis Editor

The 2007 Honda Civic Sedan is a four-door, five-passenger family sedan available in three trims, the DX, LX, and the EX. Each of the three trims is available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. The EX trim is available with a navigation system. The Honda Civic starts at $15,010 for the EX trim with 5-speed manual, and tops out at $21,260 for the EX with a 5-speed automatic and navigation system. There are a number of related models, including a coupe, hybrid, natural gas vehicle (NGV), and a high-performance Si model. A Civic-based wagon is expected, and a much-awaited diesel version should be available by 2009 or 2010.

The 2007 Honda Civic Sedan is equipped with a 140-hp 4-cylinder that provides adequate but light-weight performance. Acceleration is demur. The trade-off is mileage figures that can hit 40-mpg on the highway, but owners report that actual real-world mileage is somewhat less. Handling is quick, and responsive, however the ride is typical small-car rough.

The car is stylish, with an interior that matches the exterior. The control layout is well-done, but the unusually two-tier gauge cluster takes a little getting used to. The interior is comfortable and user-friendly, but the passenger and cargo room is limited. The trunk is comparatively small.

Safety Features

The 2007 Honda Civic is one of the safest small cars on the market, and the vehicle features a full complement of safety features. Standard safety equipment include front and rear side head curtain airbags, driver and passenger airbags with dual threshold, dual-stage deployment, front side airbags, Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) passenger airbag cutoff, front and rear automatic locking retractors, front seatbelt height adjusters, LATCH, 3-point seatbelts, front pretensioners with force limiters, side guard door beams, and trunk anti-trap.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given the 2007 Honda Civic Sedan with 5-stars in frontal crash testing for both driver and passenger, 4-stars for front seat side impact, 5-stars for rear-seat side impact, and 4-stars in rollover testing.

Trim Options

All trims are standard with a 1.8-liter SOHC i-VTEC inline 4-cylinder that produces 140-hp at 6300 rpm and 128 ft.-lb. of torque at 4300 rpm. Trims with the 5-speed manual achieve 30-mpg city and 38-mpg highway. The 5-speed automatic comes in at 30-mpg to 40-mpg highway.
