Used Jaguar

Used Jaguar cars are some of the best luxury bargains available to previously-owned shoppers. Perhaps more than any other European brand, Jaguar automobiles suffer from massive depreciation which often sees them loosing huge value in the first few years after they are sold as new. The upside for bargain hunters is that plummeting values translate into very affordable purchase prices for used cars. This scenario has been reinforced by the brand’s recent introduction of several new designs and models, shunting older editions of its cars even further into obscurity.

Jaguar is best known for its full-size XJ sedan, a vehicle which was sold in both sporty and plush editions and which featured the same elegant styling throughout most of its lifespan. The XK coupe is also a desirable used Jaguar, thanks to its combination of class, power and comfort. Entry-level Jaguars produced over the past five or so years include the S-Type mid-size sedan, a vehicle which drew styling inspiration from early 1960s Jaguar history, and the X-Type, a sedan with a wagon variant that attempted to offer an inexpensive bridge to Jaguar ownership. The latter two cars have seen their used prices drop dramatically since production of each ceased.

Popular Used Jaguar Cars

Jaguar’s past is littered with fine used automobiles; below, we’ll briefly examine three of the most popular used Jaguar cars.

Used Jaguar XJ – In 2003, the last version of this large four-door to bear the brand’s traditional design began its six-year production run. An all-aluminum body, powerful V-6 and V-8 editions and even a supercharged V8 found in the XJR helped to make this super sedan a potent premium competitor. The Super V8 and Vanden Plas versions of the car are decadent examples of British luxury at its finest.

Used Jaguar S-TYPE – This stylish mid-size premium car has been almost forgotten on the secondhand market. As a used Jaguar it balances comfort and performance, with the R edition of the sedan boasting 400 horsepower, and low demand has helped the price of a used S-Type remain affordable. 2004 – 2008 models feature a facelift both inside and out that make them more appealing than earlier versions of the car.

Used Jaguar X-Type Estate – This attractive European wagon provides all of the fun of the compact X-Type sedan but with the additional practicality of an enclosed cargo compartment behind the rear seats. Exceptionally rare in the United States, the X-Type Estate is one of the most interesting and inexpensive used Jaguar cars built in the past ten years.

The Bottom Line On Used Jaguar Cars

Jaguar’s traditional luxury and design disguises the range of extremely powerful engines and finely tuned chassis that underpin its more recent offerings. A used Jaguar is often one of the least expensive gateways into the world of high class European premium vehicles.
