2010 Ford Mustang Performance Packs Date : 10/12/2009
Having more than a 45 year history as one of the leading American vehicles in the tuning market, the 2010 Ford Mustang has already enjoyed enormous attention from reputable aftermarket sources. Though dedicated to the 2010 Mustang, most of these performance pack modifications from Ford are compatible with V6, GT, and SVT (Shelby GT500) Mustangs dating back to 2005.
2010 Ford Mustang V6 Packs
Power Pack- Considered the economy level pony car, the Ford Mustang V6's 210 horsepower and 240 pounds feet of torque has not been overlooked by the performance enthusiasts at Ford's Racing Performance Parts division. Adding some punch to the 4.0-liter single overhead cam V-6 engine, a Power Pack opens up 15 horsepower and 17 foot-pounds of torque. Including a dual exhaust X-Pipe and Ford Racing performance muffler, Ford's ProCal electronic programming tool, and a K&N filter, the Mustang V6 Power Pack setup enables peak power to beomce available nearly 2,000 rpms lower. As a final detail to the Mustang V6 Power Pack, a case of 12 high performance oil filters can provide at least 3 years of oil changes.
Handling Pack- Overall costing just under $1,300 as a complete kit, the V-6-powered Mustang coupes and convertibles are furnished with improved handling thanks to some race-quality suspension components. The Handling Pack outfits the Mustang V6 with a rear anti-roll bar and powder-coated strut tower brace for enhanced cornering control. Dropping the vehicle's height by 1.5 inches, lowering springs combine with Dynamic Suspension dampers (the same company that supplied the dampers for the race-prepped Mustang FR500C).
2010 Ford Mustang GT Packs
Power Pack- Providing an additional 10 horsepower and 8 pounds feet of torque to the 4.6-liter V-8, the Power Pack addresses performance enhancement in a manner similar to the Mustang V-6 package with many of the same parts. Unlike the Mustang V-6 Power Pack, the Mustang GT's exhaust can only be upgraded with the Ford Racing performance muffler. Nonetheless, the V-8 engine exhaust running through the aluminized stainless steel muffler roars with a more authoritative voice.
Handling Pack- Featuring much of the same suspension upgrades as the Ford Mustang V-6, the Mustang GT uses unique strut tower bracing and dampers. Lowering the Mustang GT's ride height by a full 1 or 1.5 inches, the altered center of gravity balancing 3,500-3,700 pounds enables the vehicle to be well-planted both mechanically and aerodynamically.
Super Pack- When the Power Pack seems lacking, a variety of twin screw-type superchargers can be fitted to 2010 Ford Mustang GT through the Super Pack starting with an entry-level 400 horsepower supercharger kit (adding 85 horsepower to the stock Mustang GT). Moving up to a 475 horsepower supercharger for automatic-equipped Mustang GTs, forced-air induction tops out at 11 psi of boost pressure for a 550 horsepower and 542 pounds feet of torque.
Even when the Ford Mustang GT reaches Shelby GT500 fighting power numbers, every supercharger system sold through Ford Racing Performance Parts are 50 state emission legal on the V-8-engined Ford Mustang.
2010 Ford Mustang SVT (Shelby GT500) Packs
Power Pack- Without need for minor engine tuning items, 2010 Shelby GT500s only have Ford Racing mufflers to add to the already tweaked 5.4-liter engine. Producing a trumpeting ambiance to the GT500's 540 horsepower, a solid stainless steel muffler can be fitted. Lighter as well as shorter than the other available muffler, the other and likely more performance-friendly choice is only 49 state legal (prohibited in California).
Handling Pack- Lowering the Shelby GT500 by 1.25 inches overall, aggressive springs and adjustable dampers are the recipe to some superb track performances. Vehicle stiffness is improved with a rear anti-roll bar and a strut tower brace conceived for the Ford Shelby GT500KR.
Super Pack- Already running a supercharger setup, the 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Pack upgrades from the 5 psi root-type supercharger assembly to one of two high volume twin-screw units. Available in 650 and 750 horsepower configurations, these Ford Racing superchargers beat the 630 and 725 horsepower delivery of the GT500 Super Snake.
