2009 SEMA Auto Show: Mopar Jeep Wrangler Overland Date : 10/20/2009
The 2009 SEMA Auto Show will feature a vehicle that started out as a popular 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, but after the Mopar design team finished with it, the Jeep now sports some unusual accessories added to the mix and has been renamed Mopar Jeep Wrangler Overland.
While the exterior doesn’t have flashy paint or graphics and the interior isn’t full of T.V. screens or audio equipment, the Jeep Wrangler Overland will catch the attention of those attending the SEMA auto show at the Las Vegas convention center in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 3 – November 6.
What has been described by Chrysler as a “self-contained campsite,” the Jeep Wrangler Overland will appear at the SEMA show decked out in camping gear, including a two-person tent from ARB Simpson that is mounted on the roof. There is also a touring awning stored in the cargo rack that folds out on either side of the Jeep. The tent sits on top of the awning on the driver’s side of the Jeep while the other side has the awning only. A ladder drops out of the bottom of the tent for getting in and out.
The interior of the Jeep Wrangler Overland hides extra cargo space by replacing the rear seats with a large rubberized utility floor. Other camping-approved gear includes water-resistant seat covers, Mopar slush mats, extra switch panel to plug in extra accessories and a Daystar dash bin.
For a ride that could get a little rough, depending on where the camping trip takes place, Mopar added some goodies into the suspension to keep things comfortable. The ride height has been raised three inches by an American Expedition Vehicles’ (AEV) Nth-degree lift kit and includes a full traction rear stabilizer bar. For looks and usability, Mopar 17-inch steel off-road wheels wrapped in 35-inch tires outfit the four corners of the Jeep Overland. More exterior additions that may come in handy for off-roading include an AEV head-reduction hood and snorkel kit, AEV steel bumpers and a Warn 9.5ti winch which can prove to be useful in many situations.
Nighttime driving with Mopar windshield-mounted off-road lights and Daystar bumper-mounted lights is easier, safer and more exciting in the Mopar Jeep Wrangler Overland.
This former 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, now dubbed the Mopar Jeep Wrangler Overland, will be on display at the 2009 SEMA Auto Show for all to see and admire. It just may give you some inspirational thoughts about your own Jeep’s capabilities.
