Although the origins of Land Rover began in the wake of World War II, it wasn't until 1987 that the company made its official U.S. debut. Europe's equivalent of Jeep, Land Rover is known for its mix of capable off-road skills and upscale, luxurious interiors. Currently owned by Tata Motors, Land Rover continues to produce four distinct SUVs that are both iconic and rugged. The Range Rover is the company's flagship vehicle, and it continues to use a modernized design of the original model that was introduced in 1970. In 1996, Land Rover introduced its first crossover SUV, the Freelander, which was succeeded by the rugged LR2.
