with out startint the car try turning the key on and off about 8- 10 times

i mean a socket slot on the pully end not the bolt

will a T fitting on the vacum advance work or would that mess with the timing?? I Probably shouldn't even try to help with this one..

the original posts says it is firing,, so rule out timing,, you said its backfiring,, if its backfiring thru the intake, but now its not backfiring,, if its geting fire to the plugs you can rule out the compasiter control module, coil,, i would do what he says scan it,,

theres a control module in your distributer, if its going bad it will get hot and stop working when you get it cooled off it works, that could be one thing, egr valve thats for air,, it could be getting spark when its cool,, when it dies check it then for spark, if it still has it then you can eliminate that idea.,,fuel injuected check your fuel ...
