i have a 1991 chevy caprice .iwas driving it i was going about 15 to 30mph when my car just stooped on me /when i went to try and start it back up it started back firing so i put a new timing in it new cap  new button wires it still want start it stop back firing all it do now is turn over and over it got new spark plugs  and all of them are firing i cant fine out what is wrong with it if someone can hello me with it please do help i need my car to get to work thank you

My 1993 Caprice Classic did that on the high way. My altinater had gone out and the belt had come out try a new altinater

you should try taking out the ignition module. take it to any good parts store and they can test it for you. the symptoms you described sound more like a bad ignition module.  If module checks good then goto this next--

try taking the distributor cap off and crank the engine over, if the rotor turns your good if it doesnt turn when cranking it over then you broke the roll pin at the distributor drive gear. just pull out the distributor and install a new pin.. just remember before taking it out to find top dead center on #1 piston.. this way you will have easier time reinstalling it and retiming engine.

if it were me with something that new, any problems i have i always check and reset the computer before i do ANYTHING, i hate computers they fucked up the world. if it tries to start or does then dies again, u got computer problems, try testing your battery, if its all screwy it could be makeing your computer send wrong signals , i like to start cheap n easy, and if i were u, i would find a way to get my hands on a computer, or find someone that has one (autozone) cuz that can really sum things up sometimes :D

the original posts  says it is firing,, so rule out timing,, you said its backfiring,, if its backfiring thru the intake, but now its not backfiring,, if its geting fire to the plugs you can rule out the compasiter  control module, coil,, i would do what he says scan it,,
