We have a 1999 Ford Contour. It has 2 problems I need help with. 1)The warning chime does not work when the headlights are left on or when the key is in the ignition. 2) The interior light does not come on when you open the door. You can switch it to on and it works but when you put it on "door" so it lights when the door opens it doesn't work. I have checked all the fuses and can't find any blown. Please help. My 17 year old daughter drives this car and has already left the headlights on(running down the battery). I am also very concerned for her safety since the interior light does not come on at night when she enters the car.

It sounds like you could have a door switch problem. If the switch is bad, it might not sound the chime for the headlights being left on because it doesn't sense the door open. That would also lead the interior lights to not come on when the door is opened too. First I would check to see if there are door ajar switches in the door jam which could be out of adjustment, if there aren't any switches the door ajar sensor is most likely in the latch mechanism inside the door. This should be a good place to look first.
