    1997 Ford Ranger

My Ranger has a high pitch sound that seems to come from the engine. I eliminated the power steering pump and AC.The sound is heard most when idle.

Any idea where this sound could originate ?

don't know you good or bad but it sounds like a pully or a bad belt slipping..

Is your check engine light on? I have a 2000 Ranger and I had to change the Camshaft Positioning Sensor. When I did it made a high pitched sound that sounded like a belt. You might want to look into this.
