My Audi 2.4lt Automatic gear selector will not select !

I have a Audi A6 Auto year 2000 2.4lt, my question is my gear selector will not select drive or reverse its just stuck ! some one said it may be the Automatic Transmission Oil needs toping up, but where do you top up the oil I have looked for a Dip Stick but could not find one. Has any one got any ideas !

I just picked up a used 98 A6 and the AM/FM cassette is inoperable. It just says SAFE on the display. Any ideas??

Exceptionally loud front brake squeal HELP!

My 01 A6 developed an incredibly/exceptionaly loud front brake squeal from 10 mph or less after I had the rotors and pad done. Since it started, I've replaced the rotors twice, the pads three times and have had the pads reseated and lubed an additional two times. Two Audi dealers and a tire shop later, no one can figure out the problem. I've recently had the CV boots and tie rod ends replaced.

Any help is appreciated. I'm exhausted living with the noise and embarrasement!

I cant open the drivers door with either of the door handles(Inside or out) So how do I get the door open to take the inside doorpanel off to fix it, I cant figure out how to get the door open.

We've cleaned the sensor, reset the diagnostic reading, check engine light will stay off for about 2 days, and then back on again.

Car runs great, no performance issues.

Here are the Codes:

P Codes and DTC

P 1761 : Shift lock short to ground /DTC code 18169

P 0741: Torque converter clutch performance or Stock off /DTC code 17125

P 0711: Transmission fluid temp. sendor circuit range performance/DTC code 17095

All three read every time we do diagnostic.

Any idea how to fix, or exaclty what it is I'm looking at?

my cruise control works fine until i try to turn on the blinker then the cruise control shuts off, is that suppose to happen or is something wrong

EPC indicator light

On my 2000 Audi A6 Twin Turbo the EPC light comes on and will stay on when I start the car. If I turn the ignition off and re-start the car the indicator light will go off. What the heck is this all about. Anyone else haunted by this dash board "ghost"?

Beware Audi 1999 A6 Owners: On May 2nd My Car Was Scheudled For Service. I Indicated To The Audi Service Department That My Car Had A Very Strong Penetrating Sulfur Smell Coming From The Inside W/wo The Ac On. I Received The Car Back On May 9th. A Week Later On May 16 The Car Caught Fire While Driving And I Barely Made It Out Of The Car. I Watched The Car Burn Completely. Some Days Later I Found Out That There Was A Recall Initiated In July 2004. The Service Department For Audi Missed The Recall. I Had Never Taken The Car Anywhere Else Since It Was Purchased. How Could This Have Happened? In Good Faith I Contacted Audi Regarding This Matter And Requsted A Replacement Of My Vehcile. A Fair Request For Having Put My Life In Danger. At First, They Stated They Had Performed The Recall. After Further Review They Accepted The Liability. My Life Was Placed In Danger Due To Audi's Negligence. The Way This Has Been Handled Is Unprofessional And Completely Unacceptable. I've Advised All My Friends And Families Of Audi's Bad Business Practice. They Are In Shock Over This. I Have Been An Advocate Of Audi Now For Almost Eight Years But After This Its Clear That The Manufacturer And Its Agents That Handles These Type Of Situations Are Conducting Bad Business Ethics. Please Be Aware Of All Recalls In Particular To Those That Have To Do With The Electrical System. This Is A True Story. I Tried To Resolve This With Audi Directly But Unfortunately It Has Come To Taking This To The Next Level. I warn all Audi drivers to review the recalls for the Audi 1999 A6. I was a loyal and dedicated Audi owner who serviced the car three-four times a year since I purchased back in 1999. Slow oil leak

HI. I am a proud owner of 1998 A6 Quattro. I have noticed a slow oil leak just recently, was told by a mechanic that it is coming from the front seal. Wonder, has anyone had that problem? How easy/expensive is it to fix it on a 2.8 litre engine. I was given estimates around $600. Please, help

Car has low mileage, cared for not abused. Front boots leaking. Needs replacement of axles and boots. Is this normal. Any suggestions.

Ticking Noise under the hood!!!

I'm going to try to keep this as short as possible so you guys will read it all and try to help diagnose my problem, but I've been dealing with the same problem for over a year, so bear with me...

A year ago I brought my 2002 Audi A6 in for a "soft" ticking sound coming from the front end (only during acceleration). I noticed it would tick (almost sounds like a piston misfiring or blown) only when accelerating "under load" and not when rev'ing in park. No lights/codes at the time. The dealership took it for a test drive, and found nothing...

A couple months later the sound was louder, check engine light came on (flashing), and the car bogged out and died while getting onto the highway. I had it towed to the dealership. They said that the engine code said "pistons 2 + 5 (or whatever...two of the pistons) were misfiring." And another code saying the "main computer" was bad. They said they couldn't replace the computer because it was expensive and once they reset the code it did not duplicate. It would have to re-code and happen again to justify a warranty repair. They checked the pistons and engine and said everything else was working fine....

A few months later the check engine light came back on (constant), and the noise was also louder. The code was a "bad catalytic conv." They warranty replaced it and sent me on my way.

A couple weeks later, check engine light came back on....this time the code was also for the "catalytic conv." They replaced it again and sent me on my way.

A month later I needed an oil change, so I asked them to spend some real time road testing the noise this time, because it is ridiculously loud. The problem is the engine seems to accelerate fine, as powerful as it always has been...so the noise doesn't equal reduced performance. It just devalues the car if I try to sell it (which I am), but when people test drive it, they freak because the ticking noise is so loud now. They apparently called Audi's "special" service department to phone diagnose possibilities. I got the car back with new oil, but still the same old noise. They said that because the car is perfoming like it should (except for the 3 cats, and occasional engine light ....) that they could not diagnose WHERE the noise is actually coming from. They said that it could be from anywhere in the engine system, and that they couldn't justify spending the man hours and money to "fish" around.

Two weeks ago the engine light came back on again! I'm bringing it back in this week, and assuming that its probably another catalytic conv. or computer error. I've done a little online research but don't know much about cars. What I've found so far are 3 possible problems (which if any seem likely? and if so, how do I get the dealership to actually fix the problem?):

1) Exhaust manifold is bad - I guess this could cause the noise? Although would it be related to all the other engine codes?

2) Blown pistons - This would cause the ticking noise, but wouldn't it also reduce the power to the point that I would notice?

3) Main computer is bad - This could cause the pistons to misfire, and it could cause the Oxygen system (ESG) to mix wrong which could keep frying the catalytic converters. This seems like the most likely cause, but unless I can prove the with multiple diagnostic codes, they wont replace it.

The warranty covers me until 100,000 miles. When the noise was first reported to them, I had 50,000. At this point I'm up to 87,000, and I'm starting to feel that they are just trying to avoid repairs because it is something major, and the warranty is running out soon. Help! What do I do???

Turn signals

My 2001 A6 Turn Signals do not function at all. The arrow lights once on the dash display, then nothing! (Neither side works.) The Hazard Lights flash just fine. Bulbs work and fuse is intact. Apparently I need a new flasher unit, BUT I can't find it!!!! Help!!

Ok so here is the thing i got a 2001 audi a6 4.2quattro and the temperature is going over the half where is suppose to stay but its not going to the point where its overheating i checked the coolent and its got enough somebody told me maybe its the thermostat but i got good heat, and also the fan works but i cant figure it out what the hell the temperature is going over half so please if you could give me any tips i would appreciate it cause i dont know a lot about engines and i dont want to go to the dalership and get ripped off so please let me know what u think.. thank you

diagnosing strange sound

I thought this would be a good place to join the forum because i also have a weird sound when I drive my 1999 Audi A6 Avant station wagon with only 80K miles.

When the steering wheel i turned to the right during turns, I hear a "chirping" sound coming from the center of the dashboard area. One other point to note is that the warning snowflake on the display blinks continuously at warmer temperatures -- even 60 degrees F, but properly stays lit at lower temperatures.

Have no idea what the problem is and since the car drives perfectly, I am hesitant to start incurring diagnostics costs at the Audi dealer.

Thought it might be related to the ABS system which seems to be operating correctly when the brakes are firmly applied on slippery roads, but until I hear some knowledgeable direction, I'm hesitant to do anything.
