Should I buy?

My boss is selling me his 1996 XJ6 Jaguar for $6,500.00 . It has 83,000 miles. Its a beautiful car and it looks in good shape. It runs very well. I'm debating in either investing in a new Toyota or Honda(economy car) or buying this car from my boss. Please excuse my ignorance for not knowing much about cars but I have a few questions about this Jaguar. Are they reliable cars? Do they use-up a lot of gas? Is the maintanence expensive. My boss has many cars and he tells me he is selling this one because he is planning to buy another one in its place.

Noise in steering column 1996 jaguar xj6

I have a 1996 jaguar xj6 with telescopic steering. I am getting a clicking noise when the steering column is set to automatic. Does anyone know what this problem is?

jaguar 2000 xj8 door locks failure

Today the front door locks became stuck in the locked position while the doors are open after parking, so you cannot close the doors now. I tried the remote, the key in the door lock and the dashboard button. Is this a dealer repair only?

I need to know how to remove the front seat back so I can get to the attachment for the power headrest. I was forced up manually and came unfastened. I need to reconnect.

I have a 1998 vaden plas with 134,000 miles and I was looking for infomation on changing the transmission fluid and filter? its a 5 speed nonsupercharged. any info Thanks

1996 XJ6 random misfire (please help)

I recently bought a 1996 XJ6 with 90,000 on it. The car runs great most of the time. Won't pass inspection due to random multiple misfire in bank B. All the O2 censors were replced, the exaust was repaired and gone thru. I have spent a ton of money and need a more specific place to start. My mechanic seems to be eliminating things but at a high cost. No engine light has ever come on and we know it works. It comes on when you turn the car on. The car will drive fine, then loose power and idle rough. The faster you go the less it happens. It also seems to happen up hill more. Can you please help I love this vehicle and want to keep it to give to my son. Thank You

I would really appreciate it if someone could tell what kind of oil to use in the hydralic leveling system in the rear of the car. I would also appreciate it if someone could clue me into how to add the fluid because the hydralic system is pressurized and I don't know how to relieve the pressure.

just bought a 2002 JAG XJ8 4 my wife 4 $6900.00. took 2 the mech and was told all i needed was 2 replace the cam cover gasket, and lower ball joints. its about $1500.00 worth of work, bring the total 2 $8400.00 4 the car. i'm new 2 the JAG world, so what i want 2 know is this a good deal? the car runs perfect, and is in pristine condtion, inside and out. are the XJ8's good cars or what? and whta are the common problems with them?

Does anyone know if there are repair kits for convertable top pumps. There appears to be a leak from the metal case. I know salvage pumps are available but they may suffer from age and may be a poor investment. An exchange for a rebuilt unit may be an option but would need a source.

A friend and I met an accident last weekend after attending a party. I'm talking with my friend and suddenly I've heard a loud bang and there it is, dad's Jaguar was wrecked in front. Thank god, my engine was still okay but I need some replacements and still in search for Genuine Jag parts maybe the hood and the bumpers, my dad doesn't want any after market parts.

Another one was the headlights, it's both broken. Need to have it replace and a new bulb for it. Dad was totally pissed off me. I need to fix this one as soon as possible. Where can I get cheap parts for this? Help for this one is needed, please.

I have a 94 XJ6, and one mechanic says it needs 3 lbs to recharge, and another says 5lbs, who is right? how many cans does it take, or what must the preasure gauge show?

Before starting the oil level appears full. After a short run time "low oil" is indicated. I stop the vehicle and check, and find no oil on the dipstick. After 10-15 min shut down time, the oil level returns to full. Where is it going?

Brake light Stays on please help

Hello,

I am new to the Jaguar field and i found that my battery wa going dead every morning, then I found that the back brakes stay on when I shut off the car. So I had to manually releae the brakes so the light would go off by pulling up on the brake pedal. SO can some one tell me what is wrong? I have rplaced all the pads front and rear turned the rotors. Checked the hydraulic system it's full and the brake reservoir is full. Could this be the accumulator that keep giving me the warning light low brake pressure, please help. plaease email me at both location below Thanks.

misfire #4

have changed 4 plugs and coils.

this solved the problem with 3 other misfires. computer only specified the #4 and is still specifying the #4

as misfiring.

any advice as to why #4 still misfires?

When I lift the switch up for the right indicator, it does not work. However, when I push down the switch for the left indicator light, it works, but it won't turn off when I lift it. My ex-husband tried to look in the steering column and didn't see where the connectors were so he could check the connections. Where would this be happening so he can check again and replace what connectors that might need replacing?

Brakes/Power Steering

Twice I've had my front brakes replaced and each time when I picked up the Jag (97 XJ6L), the power steering fluid was completely drained. The first time after re-filling the fluid everything was OK. This last time, after re-filling, the fluid is draininig from the right side of the rack. Is there any connection to bleeding the brakes and emptying the power steering fluid? What would cause an instant leak when there wasn't one before the brake job? Thanks.

1995 XJ6 Alternator

I have a 1995 XJ6 and the alternator bearings are bad, I replaced the alternator with an aftermarket rebuilt of the same manufacturer and the rebuilt has one less terminal/wire connection on it. A small two wire harness was attached from the battery terminal and the third small terminal of the alternator, can anyone tell me what that harness powers?

door speakers

I have 1992 XJ6, all doors speakers are bad both left and right doors, 2 on the left side and 2 on the other side. May I know the procedure how on to remove the door panel, to remove those speakers? thanks
