car died when i was driving

I was driving and then the car just died. I was stepping on the gas and i just suddenly felt the car loose power. I felt the steering wheel starting to lock up. It happened twice. the first it happened i just turned the engine off and started it back again and it worked. the second time it won't start. it cranks but won't start. it didn't overheat or anything. There was no smell. Could it be an electrical problem or maybe a fuse problem?

Sounds like a fuel pump went bad- have it checked.

    Good luck.

Crankshaft position sensors will cause engine to die while driving as well as prevent the engine from starting when totally failed. I know first hand. They are located above the front motor mount on the Northstar engines. There are 2 of them mounted one above the other. Should replace both at same time. They are not a joy to replace yourself if you are not savvy with tools in tight spots. They typically run $ 50-75 at auto parts stores. Much more at dealers plus high labor rates.

You have a battery and alternator issue, more then likely both are now bad. Check for loose or corroded battery terminals also. Once a battery sits for a while it typically regains enough charge to start an engine again. So this means that your battery is probably good but the alternator is not recharging it fast enough to keep it fully charged while driving.
The voltage in your battery also operates your fuel gauge and if it changes it will make your gauge read funny esp if your ground is not attached well.

Still say Crank Sensors. Had experience with them. I own a 2000 DeVille DTS. You could actually restart the car while driving down the road. Just shifted into neutral and turned the key. Changed crank sensors and the problem disappeared and never came back.

There are varied reasons why your car suddenly stopped. For one, your timing belt may have been damaged or, your sensor might have been the one. To be assured, let your mechanic check your car to figure out the real problem of your car. If it is the sensor, don't wait for another day to pass not replacing it, it will give you a big problem. You can check the net for sensors, Cadillac Seville knock sensors
