    power steering

My power steering is out.  There is no fluid in the reservoir.  One hose is toast.   Any fluid added will leak out.  Can the vehicle be driven dry without damaging the power steering unit?

not for very long cyndi, you should either replace the hose, or repair it meaning cutting out the bad part of the hose and inserting, a metal tubing in its place with high pressure clamps not the screw clamps the crimping kind,,  that is cheaper then a new hose if you go that route i would insulate the tubing with the hose you hae cut out. the right way is have the line replaced,, but yes if you drive it to long your pump will be ruined..

Thanks 79.  About how much driving is too much.  I live in a remote area of northern Minnesota.  The closest place to get parts or service is 25 miles away.  Should I just have it towed?

Sorry to be such a girl!
