We jump started our 1999 230SLK after the battery died. The car started up ( and starts every time) but has no throttle response and does not accelerate above 1000 RPM. The dash shows an ASR/BAS fault light on. The only code extracted during diagnosis by four independent shops is C1022, which is a CAN BUS communication code. The last shop to look at the car was a Mercedes dealer.

The car has always been services and has about 70000 miles on it and has never been any trouble. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks... I checked out all the posts but the issues are different. My issue is that the car is not drive-able in its current state. It only idles along, no throttle response...The car does not exceed 1000 RPM!!! It does start every time  if you turn it off. I have disconnected the battery; charged the battery...The only code that we have been able to retrieve is C 1022 which seems to signify a can-bus communication fault. Where do I start?

the fault code C1022 relates to communication between the ABS/TCS system, if this comms breaks down then you will get limited engine function. This is due to the engine ECU not recieving a signal from the ABS system, the most likely cause of this would be the ABS module. You can speak with the guys at www.ecutesting.com they are good at giving free advice and may even be able to repair your ABS module for you.

try replacing your throttle response relay,try also the steering position sensor

diagnosis with bosch kts system is great on the merc,,goodluck.
