1997 Cadillac Deville Northstar 32valve V-8
Started knocking when first cranked Louder at first, then quietens to peck when warm (after 5 min)
Pecking/ “tapping” sound-- not "boom".... pretty loud!
Stays consistent peck sound while driving after warm....
Engine never cuts out or stalls....
Sits undriven a lot under a covered carport...mainly a family trip vehicle...
Aug 07 (family beach trip...First noise started on day 2 after 5 hr drive to beach...
Alternater and water pump replaced by chevy dealer mechanic....600.00 bucks!!! Still made noise but got us home!
Has always had 3500 oil changes and religious maintenance checks
75000 miles total....
Any ideas on what this problem might be? Chevy mechanics at beach had no other ideas---local mechanic wants over 1000 to "take it apart" from the top down....and then another grand from the bottom up if nothing turns up!
Any help or tips or answers greatly appreciated!!!
