If the enginee was not underwater it should be ok. Hope the oil level is not higher than it should be.......
The spark plugs could have gotten fouled out . I would remove the plugs and turn the engine over slowly a revolution or 2 then crank it with the starter . Note how much water comes out. Maybe a compression test also as it would reveal any damaged internal parts. new plugs if fouled out or funny looking and give it a whirl. Good luck.
Let me know if it turns out bad I could a 97 with lower miles on it for parts.
