    Transmission Program 1992 735i

I've had issues for the past few weeks in regards to the 735i dropping into transmission program about 90% of the time. This is basically a safe control mode that keeps the car in 3rd gear only. When not in this state the transmission works fine. I've replaced the A/M switch and the transmission control unit, that found in the passenger side kick plate. Before I have to bring it into a specialist, does anyone have any idea what else could be the problem?

Check the transmission fluid level and quality. If it is low, add trans oil. If the color is black and smells burnt, then you need to have the tranny repaired or replaced by a rebuilt one. Sometimes reprogramming the EGS (the transmission control  module) helps, but usually, it does not. Another would be
to detach the battery ground for approximately 10 to 20 minutes to EGS faults and adaptations. If hte condition persists, then you really have a bad tranny.
