Convertibles’ Demand Skyrocketing

This year saw the biggest selection of convertible cars in decades. Many convertibles, like the Volkswagen Eos, have hard tops and other materials to give the car an extra ‘buzz’ factor. The hard top convertibles allow for winter driving in Minnesota. The versatility factor from hard-tops, the sheer number of convertible nameplates (40) and the increased advertisements for convertibles is producing one of the strongest demands in convertible history. In 2004 convertibles set a record in terms of new vehicle registrations.

Dealers responding to the new market by lowering prices in order to become more competitive. Two years ago you could only find one convertible under $40,000. Now there are roughly 15 models under $35,000.

Price Analysis

Convertibles are attractive and nice. This year is probably the most competitive market for convertibles, in terms of the number of models available. Because only 3% of total car sales are convertibles, the increased competition does not hurt the consumer. This may be the best time to buy a new convertible.
