Best Time to Buy a New Car? How About Now!

December 14th - 31st is the end of the best time to buy a car for many reasons.
  • End of the year goals. Dealerships have an incentive to meet certain goals for the year. Sometimes dealers will take a hit in order to meet manufacturer's goals.
  • End of the month goals. Similar to the end of the year goals, many dealerships have monthly goals they would like to meet.
  • New car models are coming soon. Dealerships need showroom space for additional models. Many times the manufacturer sets quotas for each car model a dealership must buy. If a model is overstocked on the lot, the dealership may be willing to take a hit in order to make more room.

But this formula only works for certain cars. Many dealerships section off goals for particular makes and models. Therefore, the hottest cars will not be discounted because they will sell them regardless of price. However, there are some current great deals that you may be able to save hundreds by buying right now.

For complete overstock inventory.

buying a new car in December?? well, guess what-I did considerable research on DEPRECIATION on a new car, sitting on the dealer lot with lets say less than 15 miles. Also,it is important that most dealers have the NEXT YEAR VERSION arriving. It is true the dealer will offer a considerable discount off MSRP,but how much of a discount? It usually averages about 10-15%. As soon as a customer buys the "leftover" new car, drives it off the lot,THE VEHICLE JUST DEPRECIATED AN AVERAGE OF 25% (some a little more, some a little less, according to many references I researched) So this means most dealers will not give this much discount. One dealer I dealt with, with a new 2006 SUV MSRP of about $39K offered me a discount of $5K.I showed him some of my research and he promply lowered his price to $31K! But not enough! So buyers of new vehicles beware of first year depreciation. Good luck Jim
