Consumers Return to Trucks, SUVs

They hybrid may have lived its fifteen minutes of fame. Ford and GM reported September 2006 car sales this morning with a surprising result: Increasing demand for SUVs and trucks.

Ford noted a huge rebound in the following makes: F-Series pickup trucks, Explorer, and Expedition.  Most notably, the Ford Explorer tracked its highest sales since the famous employee pricing program. Ford's overall sales rose 4.7% in the month of September.

Demand for GM models is also increasing as sales were heavier than months past.  These models include Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra.

RockSolid Car Price Analysis:

With increased demand for cars, prices will surely rise. However, I do not think the prices will rise dramatically. For one, all cars mentioned in this article are still behind on the important year-to-date sales number when compared against last year. Therefore, it is very important for dealers and manufacturers to keep prices low in order to have a strong year.  It is still a good time to purchase large vehicles coming off the heels of a very slow season.
