Who hasn’t wanted the chance to tell an automotive company how to design its cars? Well, Chevrolet is giving the global community that very opportunity to help pick the design for the company’s next small car.
Chevrolet showed three concepts at the New York Auto Show that offer the public three varying options to help shape the future of General Motors’ global mini-car program development. The Chevrolet Beat, Trax and Groove each display a unique character for participants to vote on.
The Chevrolet Beat concept is a wedge-shaped factory tuner that would seemingly compete well against Scion’s pair of small cars. The Beat is a three-door hatchback that is powered by a turbocharged, 1.2-liter gasoline engine. With 17-inch wheels and LED headlights and taillights, the Beat looks to be aimed at younger, more individualistic consumers.
Chevrolet has labeled the Trax concept an urban crossover. The Trax features a 1.0-liter gasoline engine to power the front wheels and an independent battery pack and electric motor to provide power to the rear wheels. The four-door Trax uses a boxy design to allow for an overall design that is rugged and would allow the versatility that many SUV fans appreciate.
The Groove concept uses a similar design to Chevrolet’s popular HHR. Behind the Groove’s Malibu-inspired grille, a 1.0-liter diesel engine powers the front wheels. The overall design is highlighted by its boxy look and widely flared wheel arches.
