2008 GMC Envoy

The 2008 GMC Envoy is a mid-size sport-utility vehicle that aims to provide a balance between truck-like ruggedness and a smooth, comfortable ride for passengers. Not quite as utilitarian as the platform that sits underneath the Yukon and Yukon XL, the Envoy provides accommodations for up to 5 occupants along with an impressive maximum cargo rating of 80.1 cubic feet. 2009 BMW M6 Convertible

The 2009 BMW M6 is the last word in ultra-high performance luxury convertibles produced by the Bavarian automaker. The M6 is uses the same basic template as the 650 convertible but cranks up both the horsepower, suspension and the aggressive body work to create a beast that is a force to be reckoned with on the autobahn. The M6 offers drivers a 500 horsepower V10 engine lifted from the M5, which is also capable of kicking in 383 lb-ft of torque. 2009 Ford Ranger

The 2009 Ford Ranger continues on as the Blue Oval’s perennial and dependable compact truck option. Largely unchanged over the course of the last several years, the Ranger excels at providing buyers with a basic truck that can be configured as either a simple work vehicle or an economical daily driver. The Ranger can be ordered in Regular, two-door SuperCab or four-door SuperCab body styles. At its most simple, the Ranger offers steel wheels and a no-frills interior. The XLT model includes a CD player, nicer trim and a sliding rear window. The truck can be further dressed up with the Edge trim, which stiffens shocks and slaps on larger wheels, and the FX4 trim that is biased towards those looking to take their Ranger off-road to play in the mud.

Buyers of the 2009 Ford Ranger face a choice of 3 different engines, depending upon what trim level of vehicle is ordered. A 2.3 liter, 4-cylinder motor is the foundation for the Ranger lineup, and it produces 143 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. 2008 Kia Rio5

The 2008 Kia Rio5 is the company’s entry into the first-time car buyer market. This sporty-looking subcompact is meant to attract shoppers interested in good value in a hatchback. The Rio5 does manage to avoid the stripper mentality of the base Rio sedan and instead starts out as an LX model which features air conditioning, power steering, a CD player and a folding rear seat. The SX trim ups the ante to include alloy wheels, leather interior trim and a rear spoiler. The Rio5 compares well in terms of interior room to other more popular compact cars, and with the rear seats folded down it can handle an appreciable amount of cargo for its size.

There is only one engine to be found between the front fenders of the 2008 Kia Rio5, a 1.6 liter, 4-cylinder unit that provides 110 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. The 5-speed manual transmission on offer is the best option when it comes to squeezing the best performance out of this small motor, but a 4-speed automatic can also be ordered. Fuel economy for the Rio5 is rated at 27 miles per gallon in city driving and 33 miles per gallon on the highway.

2008 Hyundai Veracruz

The 2008 Hyundai Veracruz is the company’s first real foray into the world of mid-size SUV’s. The Veracruz’s styling is reminiscent of some of the Japanese giants of this market segment, but on the whole it offers a visual personality that is simpler and less ornamented than its competitors. The sport-utility vehicle can seat up to 7 passengers and it does so with a reasonable amount of leg room that compares favorably to other SUV’s. The interior is well designed in the sense that all controls and gauges are located logically throughout the cabin, but presentation is much plainer than might be expected by a vehicle of this size. Like many Hyundai’s, the Veracruz is loaded up with equipment right off the bat, featuring air conditioning, an impressive stereo system, cruise control, a full range of power features and third row seating. Various options packages can deck out the SUV so that it feels truly decadent in terms of luxury gadgets and comforts.

Regardless of whether front-wheel or all-wheel drive is specified, the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz is sold with the same 3.8 liter V6 engine. Good for 260 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque, this unit is more than adequate for moving the sport-utility vehicle down the road with authority. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox option, and fuel economy for the vehicle comes in at 16 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway.
