2009 Chevrolet Cobalt

The 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt is a small car from the domestic automaker that is finally able to compete on equal footing with the Japanese brands which have traditionally dominated this area of the market. Available as either a coupe or a sedan, the base Cobalt is equipped with an MP3-capable stereo system, driver information center and manual windows. Higher trim levels offer nicer seats, power windows and door locks, cruise control, and a sunroof. Heated leather seats and a number of sport appearance items can also be ordered.
There are two engines available in the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt . All standard versions of the vehicle feature the same 2.2 liter, 155 horsepower 4-cylinder unit that also generates 150 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy for this engine is rated at an impressive 25 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles per gallon on the highway. 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

The 2009 Dodge Ram has seen a host of improvements compared to the previous model year. Dodge’s flagship truck now features more aerodynamic body work, a chassis which has been designed to be tough but lighter in order to improve fuel economy, and more interior room. Also new is the RamBox, a storage feature nestled along the inside of the top of the truck’s cargo bed which can be locked to provide security for valuable cargo. Finally, interior materials have been upgraded to help give the truck a more polished feel when riding in its cabin.
There are several different engines available in the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 . Unlike some of its competitors, the base engine is a V6. Displacing 3.7 liters, it generates 215 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque. Fuel mileage for the small engine comes in at 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway. The next option is a 4.7 liter V8 that provides almost identical fuel economy but increases power output to 310 ponies and 330 lb-ft of torque. The top of the range is Dodge’s venerable Hemi 5.7 liter V8, which in the Ram produces 390 horsepower and 407 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is outfitted with a 4-speed automatic while the V8’s use 5-speed auto transmissions.

2009 Mazda B-Series

Based on the popular Ford Ranger platform, the 2009 Mazda B-Series is a compact pickup truck aimed at the crowd that still wants a reasonably economical truck that can haul a load of cargo without taking up a lot of space in the driveway. The B2300 is only available in a 2-door, two-wheel drive edition. The B4000 comes standard with four-wheel drive, and the only body style that can be ordered is a Cab Plus model with 2 small extra doors mounted in the rear in order to facilitate passenger entry. The B4000 can tow up to 5,600 lbs, which is quite respectable for its size, and interior options include air conditioning, cruise control and a CD player.
The 2009 Mazda B-Series features 4 and 6-cylinder options. The entry-level B2300 sports a 143 horsepower, 2.3 liter 4-cylinder engine that also produces 154 lb-ft of torque, while the B4000 is equipped with a 4.0 liter V6 capable of generating 207 horsepower and 238 lb-ft of torque. The B2300’s fuel economy is an excellent 21 miles per gallon around town and 26 miles per gallon on the highway, but the V6 fares considerably worse at 15 miles per gallon in stop and go driving and 19 miles per gallon on the highway. 5-speed automatic or manual transmissions can be ordered for either truck.

2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Convertible

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class convertible is one of the most elegant mid-size European rag tops on the market. Beautifully styled, the CLK350 is the definition of top down luxury. All trim levels of the vehicle come with leather seats, dual climate control, rain-sensing windshield wipers and wood trim. HID headlights, a navigation system, a wooden steering wheel and ventilated seats for the driver and front passenger can be ordered as options.
Underneath the hood, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK350 Convertible makes use of a 3.5 liter V6 engine that provides a more than adequate 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. These numbers are sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission, which makes for spirited acceleration as well as smooth cruising, depending upon how hard the accelerator is ridden. Handling is also good, but doesn’t quite match the sporty driving experience of the more extroverted offerings from BMW. Fuel mileage for the Mercedes-Benz is rated at 17 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.

2009 Mercury Mariner

The 2009 Mercury Mariner is a more upscale rendering of the Ford Escape compact SUV. With regal front end styling and a more squared-off appearance, the Mariner is the choice for more mature sport-utility buyers interested in a higher level of standard equipment. Right out of the box, the Mariner features air conditioning, power door locks, windows and mirrors, and cruise control. Tinted windows are also in the mix, and leather seats and a navigation system can be ordered as options. The Mariner enjoys the same excellent cargo space as the Escape, measuring 66.3 cubic feet with the rear seats out of the picture.
The 2009 Mercury Mariner offers two different levels of fuel economy and power. The base vehicle features a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 171 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. Fuel mileage comes in at 20 miles per gallon in stop and go driving and 28 miles per gallon on the highway for this model. There is also a 3.0 liter V6 edition of the Mariner that provides a more robust 240 horsepower and 223 lb-ft of torque, dropping fuel economy by 2 miles per gallon for both measures. The Mariner can be ordered in either four-wheel or front-wheel drive, and features a 6-speed automatic transmission.
