For the 2009 Passat lineup, the Komfort trim remains for both the sedan and wagon.
Gone are the Turbo, Lux, VR6, and VR6 4Motion trim levels. The Komfort Passats are
powered by VW's 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder.
New exterior colors for 2009 include Island Gray Metallic, Cobalt Blue Metallic, and
White Gold Metallic. Adaptive front lighting has been dropped. Volkswagen's
electronic stabilization program (ESP) is now standard. |

The 2009 Volkswagen Passat's standard turbocharged 4-cylinder engine gives it
acceleration on par with many V6 mid-sized models, while it also delivers impressive
fuel efficiency of 32 mpg on the highway. Rear side air bags, a feature not widely
available on mid-sized sedans, are available as an option. And for those seeking
more cargo space, the wagon, with its stellar mileage and cargo-hauling ability, is a
great alternative to sport-utility vehicles. |

Overview: |
|
The Volkswagen Passat is available in two different body styles for 2009--a sedan
and a wagon. Both are offered in just the Komfort trim level and come powered by a
2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that generates an impressive 200 horsepower
and 207 ft-lb of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels through a 6-speed
Tiptronic automatic transmission.
The Passat sedan offers a modest 14.2-cubic-foot trunk, but the wagon has a
cavernous 35.8 cubic-foot cargo space, expandable to more than 61 cubic feet with
the split-folding rear seatbacks down. The wagon includes a 12-volt power outlet in
back, along with a power-operated hatch.
All Passats include Volkswagen's electronic stabilization program (ESP) with
electronic differential locking, which helps maintain stability and traction. Anti-lock
brakes are also standard and include brake assist for more effective emergency
stopping, plus a brake-wiping feature to keep them dry in wet weather. Six air bags
are standard, including side-impact front air bags and side-curtain bags for outboard
occupants. Rear-seat side-impact air bags--a feature not widely available in this
class--are optional.
Passat Komfort models come nicely equipped with power sunroofs, daytime running
halogen lights, 12-way power heated driver's seats, brushed stainless interior trim, a
tilt/telescopic steering wheel with Tiptronic controls, cruise control, air conditioning,
and much more in the way of luxury and convenience features.
Options on the Passat include several body add-ons like spoilers and ground effects
kits, as well as a revamped Navigation Infotainment Package, which features a 30GB
hard drive, DVD playback, USB flash drive port, and high-resolution touch-screen
display. |
