Fuel economy for the Pontiac Vibe comes in at 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. This is actually slightly worse than last year’s fuel economy rating, which was 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Last year there was the same engine but it offered less horsepower. This year’s model the horsepower has been increased with a slight decrease in fuel efficiency as the result. If we look at the same vehicle with the automatic transmission, the current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rating for the 2009 model is 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
Revived for the 2009 model are the GT and the AWD models. Both of these come with a second larger engine – also new this year. This new engine is a 2.4 DOHC four-cylinder engine that produces 158 hp and comes paired with a five-speed manual transmission with overdrive. A five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is an option. This GT model achieves a fuel economy rating of 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The AWD model only has one transmission available – the four-speed automatic.
