CHANGE PACKAGE:
Pontiac G5 Review
By Pontiac Company

Strengths:
Stylish looks; roomy interior; good fuel economy; value pricing.

Changes:
For the 2009 G5, Pontiac has dropped the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that powers the G5 GT. In its place, the 2.2L has been revised with variable valve timing and is now standard in all G5s. The VVT increases fuel efficiency to 25 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, up from last year's 24/33. Power is also up from last year's 149 hp to 155 hp this year. A passenger-sensing system is now standard to complement the dual-stage front airbags. Also new is the addition of Bluetooth hands-free connectivity with GM's standard OnStar system. Quicksilver Metallic and Silver Green Metallic replace Nitrous Blue Metallic and Titanium Metallic as exterior colors, and Ebony over Red leather-appointed seating is available on GT models.

Value:
The 2009 G5 has plenty of Pontiac's visual flair. The G5's low price and EPA city/highway estimates of 25/37 mpg appeal to entry-level buyers and make the G5 a smart alternative to the Honda Civic.

Overview:
Pontiac's 2009 G5 employs the worldwide Delta platform to provide an economical and bold alternative in the compact coupe market. Two trim levels are available, both powered by a new 2.2L Ecotec inline-4 cylinder engine. It produces 155 hp and drives the front wheels through a standard 5-speed manual transmission.

A 4-speed automatic is optional. Interior room in the G5 is ample, particularly for rear passengers. The G5's back seat can accommodate three adults with enough room for lengthy trips. Here is a car that offers the sharp looks of a two-door, but has enough room so you can bring four friends along on the next adventure. Standard equipment in all G5s includes air conditioning, a CD player, power door locks, mirrors, and windows, an anti-theft system, OnStar and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity.

The G5 GT has a sportier appearance, with sport rocker moldings, 17-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, and fog lamps. Inside, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and a leather-wrapped shift knob enhance the driving experience. Four-wheel ABS disc brakes and a stiffer suspension are also part of the package.

All manner of optional equipment can be ordered to dress up the G5. Various aluminum wheels and audio systems are available, as are a sunroof, traction control, leather seat trim, MP3 playback and remote start. Standard safety equipment on all G5s includes dual-stage front airbags and head curtain side airbags front and rear.
