The 2009 Audi A4
The Audi A4 has long held a place in the hearts of lovers of German engineering. When the sedan was first introduced six years ago, it was the cutting edge of European auto design. While the current model is still a nice machine, Audi has let the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class outclass the sedan, leading to slumping sales. However, the 2009 Audi A4 is set to redefine the sedan line, breathing fresh life into this somewhat ailing vehicle. The 2009 Audi A4 has a fresh new look, a slightly larger body, enhanced steering for a better drive feel, two engine choices for better power and enhanced emissions and many other upgrades.
Also new for 2009 are a whole slew of modern cabin amenities designed to make the line more competitive with BMW and Mercedes. Of course, the modern styling upgrade the A4 receives will also do much to ratchet up the vehicle's appeal. The exterior receives taut lines, LED running lights and, of course, the vaunted S-Line packages. The S-Line package adds 19-inch alloy wheels, package-specific bumpers and more.
2009 Audi A4 Performance
The 2009 Audi A4 will come with two different engine options. The first, a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is expected to put out around 200 hp. The second engine option is a 3.2-liter V6 capable of producing 265 hp. The six-speed automatic transmission mated with the engine provides substantial torque, as well. The engine/transmission combination makes the new A4 capable of 0 – 60 times around 6.2 seconds, cutting .2 seconds from the time for the previous model. The 4-cylinder engine, while reducing fuel costs and emissions, lacks the power and oomph that the V6 provides.
Perhaps the best thing about the new A4 is the incredible steering. While the 2009 Audi A4 is a full 5 inches larger than its predecessor, it handles like a much smaller vehicle. Audi Drive Select allows the driver to choose the suspension performance, with selectable comfort and sport modes. Steering resembles the new look; taut, tight and aggressive. The Quattro version of the A4 is capable of handling almost any turn in the road, while the front-wheel drive version is also capable and confident, without the torque steer that can plague front-wheel drive designs. The new all-wheel drive system ensures that the car handles like a rear-drive design, while still providing the road grip that drivers have come to expect from Quattro systems.
2009 Audi A4 Interior
The 2009 Audi A4 maintains the hallmark quality that marked the preceding models. The interior is impressive, incorporating the best of modern technology, the best comfort and the best-in-class comfort and refinement. The Multimedia Interface (MMI) combines the functions of navigation and audio system in to a single unit, as well as many other functions, allowing the driver easy access to all controls. Additionally, the new A4 can be equipped with a Bang & Olufsen sound system, capable of 505 watts of power and 14 speakers.
The driver seat can be adjusted to an almost limitless number of positions, as can the steering wheel. The interior also provides a sports car-like feel. Space in the front seats is certainly not at a premium – all but the tallest drivers will find more than sufficient room for comfort during even the longest of rides. The rear seats are also improved over older models. An increase of almost 1.5 inches of legroom allows rear passengers almost as much comfort as those in the front seats.
2009 Audi A4 Safety
The 2009 Audi A4 incorporates numerous safety options for driver and passenger safety on the road. The LED daytime running lights enhance visibility, while the impact sensors ensure proper airbag release. Driver and passenger front airbags and side curtain airbags also improve safety. Traction control and ride stabilization systems ensure that the A4 remains firmly planted on the road and the addition of the Quattro system is another way to ensure greater safety during your daily drive. Other inclusions are a theft deterrent system, keyless entry and more.
2009 Audi A4 Summary
The Audi A4 is poised to take back the coveted first position, beating out competitors BMW and Mercedes once more. While the A4 lacks the serious punch at low RPM that other vehicles provide, its handling and performance more than make up for the lack. In addition, the A4's interior puts it firmly ahead of the competition in many ways. The A4 is an excellent choice for those interested in investing in a high-quality luxury sedan that offers sports car performance and stylish good looks.
