Toyota has been a successful competitor in the compact pickup truck market since the early 1980s. Bigger and more distinguishable than its predecesso, the Tacoma became an instant success for Toyota. In 2005, the Tacoma grew again in size to compete directly against the Dodge Dakota. Despite not having a V8 like the Dakota, the Tacoma V6 pumps out about the same horsepower rating as the standard (not high output) V8-powered Dakota. The Toyota Tacoma comes with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and gets an estimated 19-26 mpg on the highway.
