When the Toyota 4Runner was introduced in 1984, it was essentially just a pickup with a modified body and a removable fiberglass top. Since then, the 4Runner has evolved into a midsize SUV that is functional yet still offers effective off-road capabilities. To keep up with the likes of the Dodge Durango and Ford Explorer, the fourth generation 4Runner came equipped with a V8 engine for the first time. Although it was redesigned for the 2003 model year, the 4Runner received slight updates in 2006 especially in the front end to make it closer resemble the highly successful Tacoma pickup line. The Toyota 4Runner comes with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and gets an estimated 20 mpg on the highway.
